File 07 · Arena shooter review
Halo Infinite
Everyone spawns equal, the map holds the power weapons, and the better team earns the round.

score
Halo Infinite’s free multiplayer is a return to arena principles. Every player starts with the same rifle and sidearm; stronger weapons and equipment appear on the map at set times, and controlling them is the game. Fights last long enough for aim, movement and teamwork to matter, which makes both victories and defeats easy to understand.
New tools freshen the formula without breaking it. The grapple shot pulls you to ledges, items and even vehicles, the repulsor bats grenades away, and the drop wall buys a second of cover. In Big Team Battle, twenty-four players share large maps with Warthogs, Ghosts and tanks, and the old Halo sandbox chaos returns in full.
The Academy is a model introduction: weapon drills with scores to beat and bot matches at several difficulty levels. Forge, the in-game map editor, has produced a deep library of community maps and modes, all searchable from the custom games browser. There is also a co-operative Firefight mode against waves of AI enemies.
Its weakness is momentum. The game launched thin and, although it grew into a full package, official content now arrives in smaller operations rather than large seasons. The shop is purely cosmetic and notably fair in one respect: a pass you buy never expires, so there is no pressure to grind. As a free, skill-first shooter, it is easy to recommend.
Score breakdown
The Academy offers weapon drills and bot matches before you meet real opponents.
Even starts, map control and the classic shoot-grenade-melee triangle, still superb.
Forge maps and a custom games browser add variety; official updates are now smaller.
Cosmetics only, and a pass you buy can be finished whenever you like.
Smooth on Xbox and most PCs, with cross-play and input-based matchmaking in ranked.

Your first session: four tips
- Run the weapon drills
Ten minutes in the Academy shows how each weapon behaves and which ones suit shields versus health.
- Warm up against bots
Bot Bootcamp matches teach the maps and power-weapon locations without pressure.
- Learn one equipment item
Start with the grapple shot. Grabbing a weapon from across the room changes fights.
- Stay with a teammate
Two players firing at one target beats solo heroics. Move as a pair and trade eliminations.
Our verdict · 8.5 / 10
The fairest free shooter around. Ideal if you want clean competitive matches without chasing a rotating shop.
Best for: Shooter fans who value a level field
